With the discovery of Facebook and all the connections that can be made through it, I took a daring look into finding someone from my high school years. This person only went to our school for two years, and I never heard of him again. During the two years he was with us, there were some things that happened that I have since wanted to "make amends" for... I won't bore you with the drama of those times; just suffice it to say that I REALLY messed up.
So - I look and look, and finally find this person. Taking a deep breath, I sent a message, and soon afterwards, he responded. Do I bring up the afore mentioned deeds, or do I just let it go, I wonder? His response to my second message was, "I honestly don't remember you."
He doesn't remember me... and all these years, I've thought I ruined his high school years by my actions! I have to say, I was truly confused by my reaction. We were a small school and were in activities together; and yet he doesn't remember who I am??
So, I decided that I will leave things as they are, and not bring up the events for which I was going to apologize. I will also put those remorseful feelings to rest and finally give myself some grace for being a young, goofy girl.
And, I don't think I want to be his "Friend!"

Thanks, Dave!!
I grew up in a money-challenged home. By that I mean, even though we were in the age of "Women's Lib" - the 60s, my mom never was allowed to write a check until I was probably a Senior in High School. She was a stay-home mom, and my Dad was in control of the money. (Now, knowing what I do, I understand why!!) But, because of that, my mom taught me some very unhealthy-to-the-marriage things about manipulating the budget. Some of them I carried on to my marriage, and it really hurt us, in more ways than one.
Like a lot of young American couples, we ran up debt; a teacher and a probation officer don't make oogles of money, but we both admit now that we did not manage it well.
Then, we met Dave Ramsey.
Dave has shown us "the way" - and we are closer than ever to being Debt-Free. Last night, Andy wrote the last check on my car, almost a year early!! It was a great feeling, and not because now I have more money to spend, but the list of what we owe grew shorter by a big one. With retirement not too far in the future, every bit we do helps a lot. (I want to retire and get to be with Liz, Bladen, and grandbabies still in my future!!)
So, with the check in the mail to pay off my car (and let's all pray it runs for a long, long time!!) - I say, "Thanks, Dave!!"

waiting still
I'm trying hard to put this biopsy result thing on the back burner and not let it affect my having Dana here for a few days, but it's beginning to wear me down, I'm afraid. I find myself sitting and staring at nothing a lot, and wanting to go spend money - how that fits in, I'm not sure, but it's there. Last night, I needed out of the house, and bad.
After Dana left to go visit some friends, we went to eat at a little place out of town. They have great pizza, but I was in the mood for a French Dip - messy dip and all! The place was busy, but we weren't in a rush, so we just sat and talked. After a long while, they brought out salads, and our money!! They said since we'd waited so long, they were making dinner on them! Wow - okay.
We ate our salad, and a bit later, the owner came over to apologize herself. I told her we wanted to pay for our dinner, but I'd take a piece of their delicious German chocolate cake if she insisted... she said they would throw in the cake on top of giving us our dinner! This lady was persistent!!
After we ate - good sandwich, but not the best French Dip I've ever had - I went up to get our cake. I tried to pay for it, but she wouldn't let me. I smiled, thanked her again and walked out the door.
Her tip - the price of our dinner. I still figure we came out ahead, what with the free pieces of cake and all!!

tick - tock - tick - tock
Well, the call should come today - about the biopsy results; they told me Wed. or Thurs. - so I should be hearing something.
I can accept whatever they tell me, but I can't totally block it from my mind. I want to get on with the summer, but Andy is holding me off until we know what - if anything - we are facing. I hate it when he is so logical!!
On a happier note; it's great having Dana home for a few days, even if it is only in the evening. She loved the first day of her workshop, so that makes getting up early in June worth it. Most of the folks she hangs out with when here are out of town, so her dad and I get the majority of her time. Yippee!! It makes the waiting easier to have her here.
I'll post news when I have it; until then, please pray -

Two long, frustrating weeks!!
Well, hello again!! I cannot believe it's been so long since I've been able to post -- I finally had to sign in on Andy's blog to get here, so this may or may not work. Hard to type with crossed fingers!!
So much has happened that I wanted to share; been to the Hill Country, on a Ladies' retreat, and the end of school are all writeable topics, and it's been agonizing (well, maybe not THAT bad!) not to be able to write and share. I'll try to hit the high points a little at a time.
My SPURS are having a terrible time with Steve Nash and the Suns. The crowd gathers here Sat. night at 7 p.m. to light incense, chant, and offer sacrifices before the tip-off. Jackie will not be here, so we may have to hang her Ginobili jersey from the ceiling fan in her honor. (That is not a commentary on her activity level during the game, by the way!) The SPURS should put it to them this time....
Just a few more days of school. Proud of my Dana's scores on TAKS - she pulled it off; three state tests, and all in the 90% range!! 89% her natural talent, 1 % A&M and 10% genetics. Hope my students fare as well.
Well, I'll close for now, before the computer figures out what I did and bumps me off. Hopefully, I'll be back soon!!
